A research-led design project exploring intimacy, connection, and communication within the prison system.
Overview: Prison Intimacy explores how intimacy is experienced, negotiated, and restricted within carceral environments. The project focuses on the emotional and relational impact of incarceration, examining how systems designed around control and surveillance shape personal connection, care, and identity. Through research, visual storytelling, and design experimentation, the project aims to bring visibility to forms of intimacy that are often overlooked or actively suppressed within the prison system.
My role: Along with my partner, I developed the visual language of the project. The output consisted of a series of satirical 'props' ; objects that could be used to increase intimacy in prison. Our research and insights were translated into visual outcomes in the final photos. The work combines critical research with visual communication, using design as a tool to explore complex social and emotional systems.
